The RCCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting all aspects of the arts and the artistic community in Metro Detroit, starting with the artists-in-residence at the Russell Industrial Center (RIC), and embracing the efforts of all creative individuals in the area.
The RCCA resides in the RIC, making it Metro Detroit’s largest collection of artist under one roof. This special community was formed by the same artists who had made the RIC home to their businesses and studios. As the community grew, a larger picture came into focus: the idea of individual artists coming together as a collective with a helping-hand approach, and a philosophy that each would offer his or her special talents, knowledge and contacts to any member who needed them. An extension of this philosophy created the People’s Arts Festival (PAF), the largest collection of artists, musicians and filmmakers in the region.
With the success of The PAF, the founding members saw an even greater need in the community at large. RCCA board member Peter Traskal summed it up best, "We focused the abilities of the collective on bringing as many artists to the forefront as possible, in order to benefit the whole." In these uncertain economic times in Michigan, we believe the best way to forge ahead is by utilizing all of our diverse talents and backgrounds to build a better future.
